Hello!
My name is Stacy. I wanted to share a little about me, what I love and what inspired me to want to grow a cut flower garden.
I have lived in Bargersville, IN since 2018. I am a school nurse at a local school corporation. My husband (Clayton) and I have been married since September of 2021. Together we have 2 dogs: Hadley and Brody, 4 chickens: Ruth, Trudy, Margaret and Jane, and recently adopted 2 kittens: Bonnie and Holly. Clayton and I have tackled lots of DIY/renovation projects to our house to make it our home. I enjoy traveling and going to new places but am also a homebody at heart. You can find me reading, drinking coffee, listening to music or doing something around our house. I cherish my time spent with family (which includes our pets) and friends. I love doing anything that involves being outside. Clayton and I own a boat and we spend our summer time weekends out on Lake Monroe in Bloomington, IN. We enjoy walking to and visiting local businesses in our small town and other small towns close by.
One thing I have learning about myself is that I am a busy bee and have a hard time not doing “something.” This can be both good and bad, just ask my husband. I enjoy learning new things and love to figure out how to incorporate what I’ve learned into my life.
Enter growing a cut flower garden!
I just love fresh flowers, they make me so happy. You can’t tell me they don’t make you happy as well. I made all of our flowers at our wedding and have a dedicated spot in our kitchen just for fresh flowers. If you think about it, flowers commonly go hand in hand with memories. Think of weddings, celebrations, birthdays, anniversaries, and even the small moments of everyday life. Some of my last memories I have of my grandmother are us walking around her yard looking at her flowers, more specifically snapdragons. She showed me the special surprise of what happens if you gently squeeze the sides together. Every year I always make sure we have snapdragons and every year I get to relive that memory that I so deeply cherish. Flowers have the power to make you feel special, loved, supported, and tranquil.
I have always had this idea to be able to grow flowers to make beautiful bouquets and share small amounts of happiness with others. I actually tried to start a cut flower garden a couple years back, and it just wasn’t the perfect timing. Looking back, I honestly had no clue what growing a cut flower garden entailed. Little innocent me got a 72 cell seed starter tray, sowed some seeds and had these little seedlings emerging before I knew it. I quickly panicked because I didn’t have a properly thought out plan on what to do with these seedlings or how to even take care of them so I just decided to put my dreams on hold. It was a super busy time in our life, we were planning our wedding and finishing up multiple home projects. Additionally, I was still working at Riley Hospital for Children on top of working my school nurse job. If you grow flowers, you know planning and time is of the essence.
Things truly workout for a reason. This year I entered a new decade in my life and decided what no better time than now to start something I have dreamt about. I am no longer working 2 jobs and will now have the summers off to be able to pour my heart and soul into my cut flower garden. Even though this journey is just starting I have learned so much. I even have a failed a lot already, but that’s the beauty of growing a cut flower garden, right? If you fail, you can always start over. Things will work out when the timing is just right.
Continue to follow along on this journey with me. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for SH Stems, and am so excited to bring a little bit of happiness from my home to yours.
